Blue Cheese Ribeye Steak

Ingredients:
300g Ribeye Steak (2 pieces)
1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper
1/2 cup dry red wine
1/3 cup blue cheese dressing
1 tablespoon olive oil

Method:
1. Marinade the steaks in the red wine, black pepper and olive oil
2. Leave this in the fridge marinating for at least 2 hours.  (I left it for 4 hours)
3. Drain the marinade, add the blue cheese dressing and marinade for another 2 hours
4. Heat your non stick pan, add 1 teaspoon of butter.
5. On hight heat, sear the steaks on both sides
6.  Reduce the heat and cook each side for 5 minutes (this is for a medium rare steak)
7.  Serve after allowing the steaks to rest for 10  minutes

A closer look at the steak.  Love the charred bits

Ahah!

I was afraid you braised it and then added the blue cheese, which, I think, would make it too strong. the way you did it is almost like using buttermilk in chicken. Helps tenderize and adds a little bitter to compliment the savory and the char.
groocy.
You keep impressing me when most fail. :)

And mushrooms are just...Mmmmm.

Btw, in case you ever want to look at a slight cheat....Check out steak dust. Something I just found. It has all the flavores I usually love but it's in powder form so you can rub it on an hour or two or 4 before and let it soak in. it's like the perfect savory steak flavor. Only thing I ever do is, after flipping the steak I add crushed garlic and butter on the top and let it melt in as the last side is cooking. Then let it set about 10-15 minutes. WOW.

yea the mushrooms were great. something i tried the last time i made a steak, and it impressed me so much I had to add it again this time.

I shall try and find the rub...though i doubt i will find it in singapore :)

I couldnt even tell after trying the steak that blue cheese was added. It turned out really mild.

How do you make a buttermilk chicken? I have heard a lot abt this south dish, but i have never really tried it.

Bobbysan[info]bobbysan on September 11th, 2006 03:40 am (UTC)
You just soak chicken parts in buttermilk and mayve some non salty spices. i like thyme and rosemary and smoked paprica and cayenne and black and white pepper.

The thickness of the buttermilk makes the flour mix stick better. though I use flour and panko breadcrumbs (something I'm sure you have there). :)

New Orleans, Post K is a hard place to get many items anymore...

panko breadcrumbs? I assume that's just breadcrumbs?

coolest! I shall try that soon!! heheehehe exciting
Bobbysan[info]bobbysan on September 11th, 2006 03:45 am (UTC)
Pnko are Japanses bread crumbs known for being much crispier than normal ones.
Amazing stuff. use it a lot in suchi when I want cruncy parts to certain dished like crunchy tuna or crawfish sushi.

i tried to - windows all open and fan blasting away. but couldn't dissipate because at one point the little monster was on the curtain and i sprayed it hardcore... :P

at 6am, i couldn't take it anymore and took the curtain down. then slept with my eyes in pain from the sunlight!
vanessafrida[info]vanessafrida on September 12th, 2006 06:18 am (UTC)

JV[info]drag0nette on September 12th, 2006 06:22 am (UTC)
but he was a grandfather-sized one! :p the ones that just won't die.

i sprayed him full-on, he crawled behind the curtain, i pulled curtain to stretch out, and whacked him through the curtain (blindly whack). he panicked and started struggling and gave his position away... and that was the end of him. :p

Hey babe, I'm [info]unpretty_lady. :P Just saw this & wow... Darn, if I were to make it for my boyfriend, he'll be over the moon. Haha!

Btw, sorry for this stupid question, but what's a blue cheese dressing? :X

Oh ya, I was from SCGS too! :D
vanessafrida[info]vanessafrida on September 14th, 2006 06:17 am (UTC)
hi there, ok i am a little confused....why does it say ladykrissy then? just curious. :)

blue cheese dressing is a salad dressing. Also used as a dip for baffalo wings. :)

hello fellow scgs gal :)
ladykrissy[info]ladykrissy on September 14th, 2006 06:26 am (UTC)
Oh, because I used another account to log-in. Intending to abandon [info]unpretty_lady. :P

Hi, chanced upon this recipe and I so wanna do it this weekend if possible.

Just a cple of questions.

1. Blue cheese dressing available off the shelves at Cold Storage? Or home made better?

2. Would the steak be very blue cheesy? I will be serving non blue cheese fans (unlike me, I'm a very smelly cheese fan).

Thanks in advance!
vanessafrida[info]vanessafrida on December 14th, 2006 04:22 am (UTC)
i just used store bought stuff....hehehehee for the blue cheese dressing.

and no the steak won't be very blue cheesy :) i have served it to non blue cheese eaters :)

hi vanessa
would you be able to recommend a dry red wine to use for this recipe?
half the time I have no idea whether or not the wine is dry :P
vanessafrida[info]vanessafrida on September 1st, 2008 01:12 am (UTC)
most of the reds you get in Singapore should work...just go for a cab sauv or shiraz :)
